Why Does My Diet Pill Give Me Jitters?

Diet pill jitters are a common complaint among people who choose to boost weight loss by taking a supplement. These jitters are caused by an increased heart rate and that is exactly what the diet pill claims to do when it says it will increase your metabolism. Why? Because the faster your heart beats, the more energy the body is using and thus, the more calories you are burning. That is the most basic definition of increasing metabolism. Diet pill jitters are often caused by caffeine, but there can be long scientific names on the label that may not appear to be caffeine based at all.

Caffeine use in diet pills has been a problem as long as diet pills have been around. The most common source of caffeine is straight caffeine. The label will divulge this ingredient as caffeine or some other name that may look healthy and be nothing more than a straight stimulant. Green tea, for instance, has been proven to increase weight loss, but that does not mean the caffeine levels in the green tea are not going to cause some sort of jitters. Other common natural stimulants are Ma Huang, Rhodiola Rosa and Kola Nut. In some diet pills, these ingredients will be combined to create a proprietary compound. These compounds spell out diet jitters for sure.

The proprietary compound is just a big term for, “We don’t want you to know.” The diet pill company has included some good ingredients that could really increase weight loss, in most cases, but the AMOUNT of that ingredient is not given on the label. This could mean that only a trace amount of the ingredient is used and that the majority of the ingredients are stimulants. Why are stimulants and caffeine bad in a diet pill? For people who are sensitive to caffeine, the increased heart rate could lead to nausea, vomiting, rapid heart rate and even hospitalization if taken in excess. Diet pill jitters are not something the dieter has to live with in order to lose weight. They are just the cheapest and fastest way to increase heart rate for increased metabolism.
